In 2010 I finished my PhD candidacy at Loughborough University’s Department of Computer Science. I was researching in the field of HCI (Human Computer Interaction) exploring Eye Tracking as an input modality for people with motor-skill disabilities.
In 2012, I got a Post Doc position at Copenhagen University’s Department of Computer Science, working on a research project called ‘Citizen Driven Environmental Action’, looking into public policy creation through online media platforms and the behavioural psychology involved in citizens’ actions around environmental sustainability, as well as teaching Digital Design. After this I went on to become an Assistant Professor in Digital Design at the IT University of Copenhagen (2014), teaching and supervising Interaction Design, Digital Innovation, as well as research methods for and through design.
My profile as a researcher can best be described as a Digital Hybrid. I never really belonged to a particular school of thought, which is probably why I am attracted to theories of learning, as the main goal of education is to balance the creation of new understandings, with existing ones. I am still evolving my own perspective and practice towards greater levels of multidimensionality, which seems to fit matters of digital design.
After 10+ years as an academic and educator, I wanted to be part of a team rather than working in the relative isolation of a researcher, and I wanted to work with applied Digital Design. Therefore, I changed lanes and moved into a corporate setting. I am now working on applying Digital Design thinking, research and practices in an organisational setting as the Product Design Lead at MobilePay, the most popular mobile payment application in Denmark.
Throughout my journey, I have applied professional observations and understandings to my experience of life and vice versa. The curiosity and thirst for insight that drives me is existential, and fundamentally tied to my experience of being and making sense of my life and that of others.
