Quadruple Helix Modell for Multi-Stakeholder-Dialogue in regional development projetcs
FieldTrip of the Students from the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg within their project: Magdeburg: European Capital of Culture 2025 (ECOC)

The aim of this 3-semester long project led by Prof. Dr. Anke Trommershausen and Daniela Marzavan is to enhance the sustainable participation of the FH Magdeburg in the application of the city of Magdeburg to become European Capital of Culture in 2025.

Hereby the projects that will be implemented in the city by the students should have an impact on its citizens beyond the ECOC application and therefore facilitate the sustainable dialogue between Industry, Policy, Science and Civil Society.

Throughout the Design Thinking process the students defined the challenge applying qualitative research methods, then focused on four personae each representing one Helix and developed ideas, that will be presented an discussed at the Waterkant festival. The feedback will be passed along to the students from the next semester who will implement the ideas in the city of Magdeburg.
Furthermore we used the concept of the Quadruple Helix Modell (Carayanis/Grigoroudis 2016) for sustainable regional development in a Multi-Stakeholder-Dialogue to make sense of the data and create human-centered innovative ideas.

Are you interested in applying the Open Innovation Model of Quadruple Helix to your own regional development project, or what to learn more about using Design Thinking in teaching assignments? Were you involved in the ECOC application of a city or in students projects that continued existing beyond the course (like www.deinraum.sh or the  Waterkant Festival)?  Or do you simply want to give our students constructive feedback? Then please join our session!

Eigentum neu denken - New work braucht new Ownership
Unternehmen als positive Kraft in der Gesellschaft?Start-up Finanzierung ohne normalen Exit?
- Und vor allem Warum braucht es “new ownership to unfuck our economy?”

It's all about the mindset - how to foster an innovation culture
"It is not about innovations, it is about innovators!"

Driven by exponential technological & digital growth, exponential decreases of natural resources, and social-and organizational shifts, our world is becoming more complex than it has ever been. Today, in business and society, the strength of these forces of change is felt more than ever before. We all need to re-learn how to navigate. We believe that the only real meaningful innovation that is needed in these times is the innovation of culture. As long as people don’t show an attitude to innovate your organization can spend unlimited budgets on innovation projects but won’t succeed in the long run.
During the session, we want to give you an outlook on how you can develop a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within your organization: a culture of collaboration, customer focus, courage, optimism, empathy and mindfulness. A culture that is willing and able to deal with challenges of today.
A culture that everyone feels valued.

Purpose beats products – why attitude is the key to building a meaningful brand
Together, we will deep-dive into the world of building meaningful brands from a strategic point of view. We are convinced that – especially in our saturated markets – the brand is the strategic foundation of every company and especially of every startup: Brands are formed in the consumers’ minds based on all the experiences they make with a company. The question everybody should be able to answer: What do we stand for? Because nowadays, people don’t buy products, they buy what they identify with: purpose, values, attitude.

ComposTech Food Recycler
Compostech is behind the development of a new system for recycling food waste in large kitchens, canteens, institutions and restaurants. Our idea led to the design of the ComposTech system in order to decrease the current rate of food waste generation. ComposTech food recycler is a new brand of high-tech kitchen appliance to reduce food waste by over two-third its original volume through a fully automated process. It is a container that serves as garbage disposal for food waste in large kitchens. Our solution transforms food waste into fertilisers directly in the kitchen within less than 48 hours against normal 3 weeks.
All restaurants and kitchens have food waste and need a way to get rid of it.
The amount of food waste differs, depending on size of the kitchen, although in most this amounts to over 300 kg each month. In other words, each kitchen is spending between 800 and 2000 DKK each month to have their food waste removed. Given the consistently large rate of food waste, most institutions desire to reduce not only their own food waste, but also the amount they spend on associated costs.
Food waste in large kitchens, canteens and restaurants is due to lack of planning of purchases, storage requirements, cooking and overproduction in buffets. Large kitchens, canteens and restaurants pay lots of money to get rid of waste. Our solution allows large kitchens to convert food waste quickly and efficiently into the kitchen in a closed container. With our solution, large kitchens will be able to make money on food waste instead of having to pay for disposal of the waste. There are significant amounts of food waste from large kitchens, institutions, restaurants of 60,000 tonnes alone in DK and 11 million tonnes
in the EU.

Can you really manage NEW WORK? This trojan horse that might challenge your core values!
About ten years ago the coworking movement was emerging in Europe. Its initiators were mostly people from the open source/open design/open culture/open everything communities. It was in times of a global financial crisis that young graduates and creative industry freelancers set the ground for a new way of working in Europe, and helped strengthen this global.
The utopia was that one day talents would recruit corporations they want to work for and not vice-versa. The utopia was that one day people would be able to choose when and form where the work. Most notable, the utopia was that one day people will ask for and co-create the reason why they work. The utopia turned into reality for many people.
Today some corporations, banks and governments hire us, the generation Y pioneers who kicked off this movement, to show them how to change their organizational culture. Most of them transform their offices into corporate-coworking spaces or workshop playgrounds, do some workshops and call it new work.
When you get inspired by a movement that emerged from values like sharism, openness collaboration, community and sustainability, then picking only the low hanging fruits (i.e. setting up a workshop room) does not prevent those values to come along and invade your organization from the inside. The taste of the fruits will still be revolutionary.
These values question power structures and the way organizational work has been managed since the third industrial revolution. If the manager's task is no longer to organize resources and optimize processes towards profit maximization, then..what is their role? If sticks and carrots, divide and conquer and similar strategies don’t work anymore…what are the new strategies? If a MBA degree continues to be the entry ticket to the C-Suite, then what should be taught in MBAs? (How) can managers successfully manage tomorrows organisations?

This session will sketch out the sequence of events from the past 10 years from the perspective of a coworking and industry insider. We will discuss possible paths for the next 10 years, while taking the current crisis and the much younger movement behind it into consideration.

Take courage! But for the things that make you alive
Although it doesn’t sound very intriguing, let’s face it: most of the bigger things that we are going after take some courage. And even though courage sounds heroic and nice, the moment before we take it, we often do not feel heroic at all. Instead, we are nervous, we doubt whether we are able to take the leap, we feel vulnerable. If it is that uncomfortable to be courageous, let’s take at least courage for the things, that we truly want if we listen courageously to ourselves.

I share my perspective supported by a simple model that helps us to identify which voice we should follow, and when it is time to use our energy to step courageously into the ring. I believe that we are here to learn from each other and I am looking forward to a discussion afterwards to hear your thoughts.

The Library of the Future

How video games are changing our lives
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

It's not just Super Mario and Counterstrike any more: video games have matured and are impacting many aspects of our modern lives - even for those who don't consider themselves to be "gamers". Technologies like AI, VR, or AR have their roots in games and "gamification" changes the way we work and interact with each other. Even Netflix is experimenting with new interactive original programs, changing the nature of traditional TV once again.

As the medium and its players have grown up the game's contents and themes have matured as well. Games are a modern art form. Interactivity adds a new dimension for creative expression. In this talk, we'll explore how you can open yourself up to this uprising medium. How can you get started? Who makes games, who plays games? How are you impacted and which role are you playing?

DIY low cost smart home in a rented flat
I see the smart home world from a consumers perspective and I was always frustrated. Overpriced, poorly written apps not upgraded in a while, no open api, connecting to a "cloud" without knowing what data gets collected about me - this list can go on and on... I want to show you that there are alternatives out there and I believe everyone can start their own DIY journey to make their home smart - in a good way.

How to learn with fun. Neuroscientific arguments
"Learning is about motivation. It is dependent on reward signals. The more we enjoy learning, the more effective it becomes." Michael Kohl teaches and researches at the Institute for Neurosciences at Oxford University. He is interested in how we learn, more precisely: how the brain codes and processes information. In his keynote he will tell us what role motivation, fun and reward play in this process.

Waterkant Gamejam Final Presentation
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

A game jam is a hackathon for video games. It is a gathering of people for the purpose of planning, designing, and creating one or more games within a short span of time, in this case 48 hours.
Participants either arrive in groups or find new teammates on site. Game jams usually run under a specific theme, which is announced when the jam starts. The participants are free to work whichever way they want; the games are usually in a prototype state when the jam is over. In the end, every team has the chance to present their game to the other jammers and an interested audience. After the final presentations the games are exhibited and playable.

UX@UXMA – How to develop successful products & services with your client
Make Love – again and again and again

BRANDNEW WORK: Welt verändern ohne Chef*in
Limited Capacity filling up

Zumindest meistens.

Nachhaltige Strukturen schaffen
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Our core objective is political, natural and cultural sustainability. We want to create a physical link between two conurbations via a cycle path that connects not only conurbations, but also neighbouring villages and rural regions. Applied to our project, this will create a "Silk Road of Sustainability". The communication between and within the communities functions digitally over a platform in the format of an app. This app works as a stage for the presentation of regional strengths and products, promotes the exchange between town and country and thus initiates further joint projects.A physical reference and point of reference is created in the locations through a modular building concept.
